Thong Kee Chinese restaurant Bangkok

Thong Kee restaurant is old school – it’s been around for over 100 years. I know there are plenty of shopping malls food courts serving dishes to suit all, and there are fast food outlets everywhere. However if you want classic Chinese food, this place is the real deal. It’s not in Bangkok’s China town but on the main drag of Sukhumvit Road, and a brilliant spot for lunch if you’re in the area!

I was introduced to this place by my uncle who has lived in Bangkok all his life, and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying, he really likes his food! Food is really important to Thai’s, they often are thinking about their next meal before they have finished the current one! There is such a choice of restaurants in Bangkok that it shouldn’t be a surprise really, and I’m really glad we have the benefit of his 50 odd years experience of eating out!

So this is a classic Chinese restaurant – the kind you find in every China town around the world. The kind you come to for roast duck, roast pork and crispy pork, and these will likely be hanging up in the window to tempt you inside. These signature dishes keep generations of families coming back for breakfast (why not? lunch and dinner, over rice, egg noodles or in noodle soup.

We had the works (of course). The roast meats were succulent and delicious. We also had slow cooked stewed duck which came in a slightly spiced broth with egg noodles.  The duck just fell off the bone! The other must try thing at lunch is the Dim Sum (Chinese dumplings). There is a vast menu, however as I was with a regular we didn’t actually need to order, a variety of dim sum just kept being layered onto the table before us! It seemed way too much food for three, however, as I said before, my uncle like his food and made a commendable dent in the mountain of dim sum.
